The European Parliament legislative resolution on the Proposal for a Council Regulation in matters of parenthood

Last week (14 December 2023), the European Parliament adopted its legislative resolution No P9_TA(2023)0481, of 14 December 2023, on the proposal for a Council regulation on jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition of decisions and acceptance of authentic instruments in matters of parenthood and on the creation of a European Certificate of Parenthood (COM(2022) 0695).

While the European Parliament backed the draft legislation, it proposed some amendments to foster, on the one side, the protection of the children’s rights, and, on the other side, the exclusive competence of Member States in family law matters.

The text of the resolution can be read here.
